FIESTA NG QUIAPO

During my Elementary days me and my friends would go to quiapo to celebrate the fiesta of the black Nazarene. During those days stores and vendors would greet and ask you to eat and taste their food like bibingka, palabok, pancit, and sago for free and you would really feel the warmth of the celebration. Now the present fiesta ng Quipo, 2 person died because of stumpede during the “prosesyon ng Nazareno” and there were no free food to share the feista or a simple greeting happy fiesta! Let just call its the sign of the time.

The Balloon Man

I first meet Dominggo Opiana , 72 yrs old, 3 years ago, way back 2004 in Roxas blvd bay walk,( I was not into photography that time, I was with my band playing my guitar at baywalk) according to Mang Doming during the glory days of baywalk, he would made 3000 to 4000 pesos in one goodnight in baywalk selling balloons and funny nose mask.(Damn I was only making 400 pesos playing with my band 3 sets, 30 songs a night 9pm to 2am). He said that the tourist made his income ballooned to 3k to 4k, if he price his merchandise 4$, the tourist don’t mind, “ basta ngumiti ka lang pag nag picturan na kayo”. Wow that was his secret- his killer smile.

Although the baywalk Restaurant and Clubs exist for 5 half yrs, he only sold his merchandise there for 3 years, His first attempt to sell his merchandise ends up in a disaster, because of Mayor Lito Atienza policy “ no vendors allowed in baywalk” “huhulihin ka pag nagtinda ka doon” he said

So he ask and prayed for help of the Black...

5th Jazz festival

No more elevator music that what they do during the 5th Jazz festival. Its pure brass blowing that will blow your brains out, and for me jazz is the most rebellious form of music, you may ask why? it's because you still look so smooth and cool even though you were just improvising your notes from your melody to your solo's that is why. hmmm if you still don't get it, I have tip for you. just listen and use your senses!

baywalk no more

I grew up in Manila, the city center of the Philippines. I have seen every block of the city, and how little things improved for the past 30 yrs, and after like an eternity, finally project to developed the bay area spear headed by Mayor Lito Atienza. The mission is to make it a tourist spot for the local and foreigners, provide additional job, generate tax for the city to improve its services and lastly to provide a leisurely place for the whole family to enjoy and relax.
I have post some photos that I shoot while it was still providing jobs for 400 restaurants personnel, generating tax for the city of Manila and most of all it provide a leisure activity for the whole family to enjoy, while it wasn’t demolished by the new Mayor Fred Lim all in the name of dirty politics and business.
